Each year we see a shift in the current wedding trends - sometimes what's "in" is a subtle change, other times it's a complete 180. But this lends itself to one of the wonderful things about weddings and wedding planning. It never gets boring or stale when there are so many new and different ideas.

Here are some of the current wedding trends for 2012.

1. Chevron zig zags, swirls, and polka dots - These eye-catching geometric shapes and patterns are chic and modern. The use of shape and pattern is a fun way for brides and grooms to inject another dimension of themselves into their overall wedding design. Geometrics are playful, yet formal without being stuffy. This wedding trend gives a clean, streamlined look that is fresh and visually appealing.

2. Tangerine Tango - The current color trend is a beautiful orange. Orange is naturally a bold, vibrant color. What's nice about this 2012 Pantone Color is that it's bold and fun, but just a little soft and romantic without being too understated. This gorgeous color pops, but is more sophisticated than a true orange.

3. Bridesmaids choosing their own wedding attire - Bridesmaids should look like they belong at the same event, but these days fewer brides are having them wear identical dresses. Be sure to give them some guidelines (color, hem length, etc.), or give them a selection of styles to choose from. You'll get bridesmaids in dresses you'll like, and they'll have a dress they love.

4. Two Dresses - While your wedding gown may be perfect for your ceremony, it just might not be what you have in mind to wear for your reception. The trend for brides to change into a different gown is growing. The style of the second dress can be long or short, wedding-ish or a fun party dress. Some brides choose to change before arriving to her reception so she can make the "big reveal" during the grand entrance. Others prefer to make a quick change sometime during the festivities.

Other fun trends:

Photo booths - whether by a professional company or DIY with a backdrop and digital camera, photo booths are a fun activity for your wedding reception.

Uplighting - such an easy and inexpensive way to add some color and drama to the look of your wedding.

Vintage touches - The vintage wedding trend is still going strong. From rustic and woodsy to Hollywood glam, there are many different vintage styles.
